solstice dub

Before there was dubstep, there was just plain dub; typically an electronically enhanced and lyric-free subgenre of reggae that does especially well in New Zealand. That’s homebase for Salmonella Dub, who recently released their second full-length after the departure of their former lead man, Tiki Taane. So far I haven’t been too fond of the new vocals, but their ability to put together some great instrumentals is alive and well. Take Madness, which came out on a sneak-peak EP earlier this year and has been hogging my playlist ever since. It’s another one of those two-faced songs, starting off on a more serious tone and then all of the sudden, opening up to a more carefree and basshappy mood. It gives me a big summer vibe, which still sounds good as we start to dig into winter.

OK, so SKITRIP2010 is going to have an education night where ThatKidThere learns all about the different genres and sub-genres of the electro scene.
Going in, I know I like the following:
Diplo
Mustard Pimp
Bloody Beetroots
Deadmau5
Bassnectar
Tes la rok
SO where does that put me? I think breakstep. I’ll bring my notebook, no worries.
SKITRIP2010 will be LEGENDARY! We’ll help out the best we can with your education of all things electro.
It’s hard to put all of those in one category but bring your notebook & extra pencils just in case.
